Overview

The Talking Books Service by Mail (TBS) offers service to people who are unable to visit a public library. This is a free service. It offers thousands of alternative format materials to people who have difficulty reading print due to a visual, physical or learning disability.

Eligibility

Library materials in alternative formats are available for cardholders who have a print disability.

Description

Patrons select their reading preferences and an employee selects materials based on those preferences or the user can request specific titles. Staff can also assist patrons in choosing books and materials in DAISY, audio, braille, eBook, e-braille and other accessible formats. There’s something for every age and interest!

This service is made possible thanks to Canada Post’s Library Materials Service and the Literature for the Blind Program. The alternative formats are offered in partnership with the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) and Bibliothèques et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ).
