Overview
If a person dies in New Brunswick, the death must be registered with Vital Statistics. Death registration creates a legal record of death, which makes it possible to issue a death certificate to survivors. A death certificate may be required to apply for benefits or insurance, and to complete administrative tasks related to the settling of the estate.
Service New Brunswick provides an electronic tool for the purpose of registering a death.
Eligibility
Funeral homes, coroners, medical practitioners, and nurse practitioners.
Description
The Funeral Director, coroner, medical practitioner or nurse practitioner shall complete a registration of death (after obtaining the medical certificate of death and all relevant information about the deceased) and forward the information to the Registrar General of Vital Statistics, that will be used to register the death.
