Issuance of bear hunting licences to residents of NB and non-residents.

Eligibility
Resident: Must be 12 years of age, must be a resident as defined in the Fish and Wildlife Act and must not be restricted from purchasing a New Brunswick Hunting Licence.
Non-Resident: Must be 12 years of age, must show proof of identity and must not be restricted from purchasing a New Brunswick Hunting Licence. May purchase a licence in any Wildlife Management Zone in which the annual quota has not been depleted for that year.
Hunter Education Requirements:
• Resident and Non-Resident Hunters born on or after January 1, 1981 and all first-time hunters must show proof of a Firearm Safety / Hunter Education Course (gun hunters) or a stand-alone Bowhunter Education course (bow/crossbow hunters).
• Hunters born previous to 1981 may present a previous hunting licence as proof of hunting experience.
• Conservation Education certificates from other provinces, territories and states are valid in New Brunswick.
Young Hunters:
• 12-17 year old hunters who wish to purchase a Resident or Non-Resident Bear Licence must show proof of a Firearm Safety / Hunter Education course or a stand-alone Bowhunter Education course.
• 12-15 year old hunters must be accompanied by an adult while hunting.
• 16-17 year old hunters must be accompanied by an adult when using a centre-fire or rim-fire rifle .23 calibre or larger, or with a shotgun with ball, slug, or lead shot larger than BB or steel shot larger than F.
Description
Bear hunting licences provide hunting opportunities while managing black bear populations. The bag limit for residents is two (2) black bears per licence. The bag limit for non-residents is one (1) black bear per licence (maximum 2 licences). Upon harvesting and registering a black bear, a non-resident may purchase a second Bear Licence. Licences are valid for hunting during the spring and fall black bear hunting seasons in a calendar year.
Resident Bear Licences are valid for all Wildlife Management Zones open for black bear hunting.
Non-Resident Bear Licences are valid only for the Wildlife Management Zone specified on the licence.
Non-Resident hunters may acquire Bear Licences in either of the following two methods:
(a) Through a designated, licensed outfitter or guide who has received an allocation of Bear Licences.
(b) By entering and being successful in the computerized random access draw. Application information and procedures are available online (see “Related Links”), at department district offices and Service New Brunswick.
In the case of a non-resident, the purchase of a second licence will depend on availability directly from an outfitter or guide with an allocation of non-resident licences or availability from the Fish & Wildlife Licensing System.
