CHARLOTTETOWN (GNB) – Team New Brunswick’s Tessa Scott, of Saint John, claimed a bronze medal Saturday in women’s boxing at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Charlottetown.

Scott defeated her opponent from British Columbia to claim the first Canada Games women’s boxing medal. Women’s boxing made its Canada Games debut during the second week of competition.

Team New Brunswick’s women’s judo team also won bronze Saturday. The team composed of Kayla McLean, Chelsea Pelletier, Vicky Pitre, Dakota Sanzana, Mahee Savoie, Marisol Savoie and Brandi Lingley defeated host Prince Edward Island in Saturday’s bronze medal bout.

Saturday’s two-medal performance lifts Team New Brunswick’s total to 16 medals. The team enters the final day of the 2023 Canada Winter Games on Sunday, competing in alpine skiing ski cross and team badminton event prior to the closing ceremonies that take place at 7:30 p.m. at Charlottetown’s Eastlink Centre.
