GRANDE-DIGUE (GNB) – The provincial and federal governments, along with Atlantic Ballet of Canada, are investing more than $680,000 in the second season of Ballet by the Ocean.

“Atlantic Ballet of Canada has been incredibly innovative throughout the pandemic and has made a significant impact on communities across our province,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace. “We are happy to support Ballet by the Ocean and hope that this investment in infrastructure will help launch the ballet into their next successful 20 years.”

Scott-Wallace spoke on behalf of Environment and Climate Change Minister Gary Crossman, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

The provincial government will invest nearly $115,000 through the Regional Development Corporation, Canadian Heritage will contribute $171,000, the Atlantic Canadian Opportunities Agency (ACOA) will invest $76,500 and Atlantic Ballet of Canada will provide $321,500 towards the initiative.

This investment will allow the ballet to purchase items required for the set up of the production including the stage and audio, along with consultants for event logistics and site preparation.

“The Government of Canada recognizes the important relationship between tourism and the arts in Atlantic Canada,” said federal Economic Development and Official Languages Minister Mélanie Joly, who is also minister responsible for ACOA. “We are proud to help organizations like Atlantic Ballet of Canada create unique, world-class experiences that further position the region as a destination of choice.”

Ballet by the Ocean is a socially-distanced outdoor performance series that showcases talented performers and New Brunswick’s natural beauty and includes a locally sourced menu. Eleven shows are scheduled for the 2021 season.

For the past two decades, Atlantic Ballet of Canada has been part of the province’s cultural scene.
