The winners of the 2022 Disability Awareness Week Awards were announced at kickoff of this year’s campaign.

The main goal of the week is to raise public awareness of the barriers that prevent citizens with any type of disability from full and equal participation in their community, and to support the removal of these barriers. Established in 1988, the Premier’s Council on Disabilities presents the awards to individuals who have made a significant contribution toward improving the lives of people with disabilities.

Clarence Bastarache, Bathurst

Employer Award

Dixie Lee, Shediac

Provincial Award – Organization

Ability New Brunswick

Randy Dickinson Scholarship

Alexandre Hayward was named the recipient of the Randy Dickinson Scholarship.

Dickinson is the founding executive director of the Premier’s Council on Disabilities. The scholarship was established in recognition of his nearly four decades of work on disability issues. The $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a New Brunswick student with a disability studying in a recognized program at a New Brunswick post-secondary education institution.
