FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued today by Premier Blaine Higgs on the occasion of International Francophonie Day, on March 20:

On March 20, francophones from around the world celebrate their pride in the French language and culture.

As the only officially bilingual province in Canada, New Brunswick is one of 88 states and governments that represent 300 million francophones within the International Organization of La Francophonie.

With this visibility on the international stage, we have the potential to develop unique business opportunities and recruit international students and immigrants to meet our workforce needs.

As premier, I would like to take this opportunity to invite all New Brunswickers to a virtual performance celebrating International Francophonie Day, which will take place on Saturday, March 20, at 7 p.m.

Organized by the association of the francophone community of the Greater Saint John region, this event will bring together artists from the community and from elsewhere in the province who will offer a free show.

Together, let us continue to promote the French language and celebrate the francophone and Acadian culture of New Brunswick.

Happy International Francophonie Day 2021.
