FREDERICTON (GNB) – New Brunswickers are invited to submit nominations for the Order of New Brunswick.

It is the highest honour awarded by the province. Established in 2000, it honours and celebrates the achievements of New Brunswickers who have contributed to the province’s economic, cultural and social development. Since its inception, more than 180 individuals have been recognized.

The lieutenant-governor is chancellor of the order and invests new members during a ceremony typically held in the fall at Government House in Fredericton.

“In my role, it has been a privilege to meet so many amazing New Brunswickers from across the province, each with unique perspectives and life experiences,” said Lt.-Gov. Brenda Murphy. “There are so many exceptional individuals who deserve to be recognized for making our province a more vibrant and inclusive place. I encourage you to honour the achievements of those who stand out for their continued contributions to our province by nominating them for the Order of New Brunswick.”

The nomination deadline is April 15 and recipients will be announced on New Brunswick Day, Aug. 2.

“More than ever, the past year has shown us that New Brunswick's greatest wealth is the spirit of generosity, strength of character and determination of its people,” said Premier Blaine Higgs. “This honour is one of the best ways to recognize 10 individuals each year who bring all of these qualities together to accomplish extraordinary things for the advancement of their community and their province. I encourage anyone in New Brunswick who knows such individuals to nominate them without hesitation for this important recognition.”

Any Canadian citizen who is a present or former long-term resident of the province is eligible for nomination. Individuals must have contributed significantly to the social, cultural or economic well-being of New Brunswick and its residents by demonstrating excellence and achievement in any given area.
