MONCTON (GNB) – The provincial government renewed the co-operation action plan with Louisiana today for a period of five years.

“In addition to the historical and heritage ties between New Brunswick and Louisiana, the renewal of the co-operation action plan between our governments is important because it allows us to deepen our engagement and solidify our collaboration,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Robert Gauvin, who is also the minister responsible for La Francophonie. “In recent years our partnerships have multiplied, particularly in the areas of economics, culture and education.”

The action plan focuses on the economy, youth, education and training, and tourism and culture. It aims to promote the mobility of artists and teachers, as well as the creation of tourism and heritage experiences.

Since signing the first agreement in 2014, Louisiana has become an observer member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie and intends to carry out joint initiatives with New Brunswick in order to strengthen its presence within the organization.

The renewal of the action plan took place during the World Acadian Congress, which runs Aug. 10-24 on Prince Edward Island and in southeastern New Brunswick. The Louisiana delegation has a pavilion at the event’s Extrême Frontière.
