FREDERICTON (GNB) – Premier Blaine Higgs is travelling to Washington this week to meet with members of the National Governors Association.

“I am looking forward to meeting with the governors to enhance our relationship with the United States,” said Higgs. “While in Washington, I will be attending a number of meetings and discussing issues of importance to New Brunswickers, including unfair trade actions against our softwood lumber industry. This issue is my number one priority and I will continue to fight for an exclusion for our province.”

Higgs’ visit to Washington coincides with the 2019 Winter Meeting of the National Governors Association. During his meetings, Higgs will be discussing energy and trade opportunities, as well as softwood lumber.

“The trading relationship between Canada and the United States is important to the economies of both countries,” said Higgs. “As a trade dependent province, New Brunswick values that relationship but we want to be sure that our concerns about the challenges we face are being heard and addressed.”
