FREDERICTON (GNB) – Members of the public are invited to submit nominations for the Order of New Brunswick.

It is the highest honour awarded by the Province of New Brunswick. Established in 2000, it honours and celebrates the achievements of New Brunswickers who have contributed to the economic, cultural and social development of the province. Since its inception, more than 150 individuals have been invested into the order.

The lieutenant-governor is chancellor of the order and invests new members during a ceremony held in the fall at Government House.

“The Order of New Brunswick is a great opportunity to recognize the important contributions individual New Brunswickers make to our province,” said Lt.-Gov. Jocelyne Roy Vienneau. “We all know someone who inspires us and whose dedication, vision and actions are helping to make New Brunswick better. These are the individuals who should be nominated for the Order of New Brunswick.”

The nomination deadline is April 15. Recipients will be announced on New Brunswick Day.

“Our greatest strength in New Brunswick is our people,” said Premier Blaine Higgs. “I encourage all New Brunswickers to think about those who are making a difference in communities across the province and nominate them for this incredible honour.”

Any Canadian citizen who is a present or former long-term resident of New Brunswick is eligible for nomination. Individuals must have contributed significantly to the social, cultural or economic well-being of the province and its residents by demonstrating excellence and achievement in any given area.

“To be invested in the Order of New Brunswick is an exceptional honor that recipients can share with all those who have supported them throughout their lives; families, friends and colleagues”, said Dr. Nancy Grant, who was invested into the order in 2002. “I certainly encourage everyone to submit nominations in order to promote the numerous outstanding achievements that take place in our province.”

The nomination package must include a completed nomination form, a one-page statement, three testimonial letters, and a maximum of four additional pages of supporting material. Nominations are evaluated by the Order of New Brunswick Advisory Council, an independent group led by the Chief Justice of New Brunswick, which recommends the appointment of members to the Order.
