BATHURST (GNB) – Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Brian Kenny and France’s National Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer signed an education co-operation agreement today.
“Our government is pleased to be able to continue its co-operation agreement with France for another 10 years,” said Kenny. “The objectives of our education plans are directly related to the fields in which we want to co-operate, and we are pleased to be able to share the best practices of the New Brunswick education system.”
The two governments agree to facilitate and support the development of co-operative education projects and activities in the following fields:
- early childhood development (up to eight years of age)
- teaching of French and promotion of books and reading
- inclusive education
- arts and culture at school
- students’ overall health
- teaching of information technologies (such as coding)
- all forms of educational innovation
- student and teacher exchanges
The agreement was signed as part of the 58th ministerial session of the Conférence des ministres de l’éducation des États et gouvernements de la Francophonie (conference of ministers of education of states and governments that are members of La Francophonie).
The objective of the francophone sector’s 10-year education plan entitled Donnons à nos enfants une longueur d’avance (giving our children an edge) is for students from early childhood to adulthood to develop and use their full potential, become engaged, open-minded citizens, and contribute to the development and influence of the Acadian and francophone community and New Brunswick society. The plan aims for student success in the following priority areas: life and career plans; wellness; identity-building; citizen education and diversity; First Nations; school and life preparation; and literacy, numeracy, science and technology.
