FREDERICTON (GNB) – The first official provincial visit by Gov. Gen. Julie Payette will be to New Brunswick.

“We are honoured that Her Excellency has chosen New Brunswick for her first official provincial visit in her new role as Governor General of Canada,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “It is fitting that her first stop is in New Brunswick, one of the four founding provinces, as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation. It is also a privilege to have her join us in honouring the distinguished members of the Order of New Brunswick.”

As part of her visit, Payette will address members of the legislative assembly, meet with government officials, and attend a reception honouring members of the Order of New Brunswick and celebrating Canada’s sesquicentennial.

“The Order of New Brunswick is the province’s highest honour,” said Gallant. “The 10 new members to be invested this year join an impressive list of New Brunswickers who have demonstrated excellence and made outstanding contributions to the social, cultural and economic well-being of our province.”

Payette will also visit the University of New Brunswick’s Institute of Biomedical Engineering and 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown.
