FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is investing up to $500,000 to support outfitters in the province through the NB Fish & Hunt Promotion. Participating outfitters will receive a 20 per cent rebate on all hunting and fishing packages they sell to New Brunswick residents, allowing them to offset their prices.

“We have been working closely with the tourism industry to establish this program for outfitters because we know how hard they have been hit during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace. “This incentive will bring much-needed support to outfitters and will encourage more New Brunswickers to enjoy our province this spring and summer.”

Outfitters across the province struggled significantly this past year with the loss of lucrative business from outdoors enthusiasts who often travel to New Brunswick for hunting and fishing experiences.

“Outfitters are going through the most challenging time in their history,” said Natural Resources and Energy Development Minister Mike Holland. “This program will help sustain an industry that showcases New Brunswick as a worldwide destination for hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation. Clients of New Brunswick outfitters routinely return to an area year after year with family and friends to experience what these professionals have to offer, which promotes tourism and creates economic spinoffs across the province.”

Outfitters provide a valuable service within the hunting and fishing industry in New Brunswick, including access to bear and salmon which are highly sought-after species.

“The NB Fish & Hunt Promotion is refreshing as outfitters have gone through a long and difficult stretch due to the pandemic,” said Brian Williams, owner of Williams Woods and Water Outfitters. “This program will help us open the doors to more locals this year and allow us to do what we love – to see the smiles on people’s faces as they are enjoying the great outdoors of New Brunswick.”

All experiences must take place between April 15 and July 15 and include at least two nights of accommodations.
