Each year the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development (DNRED) also invests millions of dollars in silviculture funding on private land through the New Brunswick Private Woodlot Silviculture Program. DNRED is responsible for the administration and performance monitoring of the Program.

Participation by private land woodlot owners is voluntary and the program is available to woodlot owners through one of the seven regional Forest Products Marketing Boards. Coordination is performed by the New Brunswick Federation of Woodlot Owners, performance monitoring is done by DNRED Regional staff and financial oversight is administered by the New Brunswick Forest Products Commission.

Private woodlot owners can contact one of the regional Forest Product Marketing Boards that services the area where their woodlot is located. The Forest Products Marketing Board will assess their woodlot and determine if it meets the silvicultural criteria outlined in the New Brunswick Private Woodlot Silviculture Program Manual.

Silviculture funding is also available to existing or new sugar bushes on Crown land or private woodlots through the New Brunswick Sugar Bush Silviculture Program. The program promotes silvicultural treatments in sugar bush stands that will enhance the growth, health, and vigor of maple trees for syrup production. DNRED is responsible for management of this program. Program delivery and on-site technical assistance for sugar bush managers is provided by the NB Maple Syrup Association (NBMSA) and its members.
