Overview

Operators of pet establishments across New Brunswick are required to obtain a licence under the Pet Establishment Regulation of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Licences must be renewed annually. They are valid for one year from the date of issue.

Eligibility

Anyone operating a pet establishment in New Brunswick is required to obtain a licence.

Description

Pet Establishment means an animal shelter, a pet retail store or kennel.

An Animal Shelter is a premise that provides stray, abandoned or abused animals a sanctuary or where permanent or temporary adoptive homes are sought for animals.

A Kennel is a premises where dogs are bred or boarded for consideration.

A Pet Retail Store is a premise where dogs, cats, rodents, reptiles, amphibians, pet fish, pet and exotic birds, or other exotic animals are kept for sale.
Established for the protection of animals, the Regulation is overseen and enforced by the New Brunswick Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NBSPCA).

An application for a pet establishment licence or for the renewal of a pet establishment licence is made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NBSPCA). The NBSPCA can be contacted as follows:
