Route 11 is an important highway in New Brunswick, extending from Shediac to Campbellton, and handles up to 14,300 vehicles every day.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI) is undertaking several projects to enhance the route.

In 2021, the construction of the Shediac River Bridge for the new southbound lanes was completed.

In addition, the Cormier Brook Culvert was replaced on the existing Route 11 lanes.

In 2022, new lanes were added for southbound traffic from the south side of Shediac River to the south side of Cocagne River. This resulted in this section of road officially being twinned.

These structures were installed to facilitate the twinning of Route 11 between the south side of Shediac River and the South Side of Cocagne River.

The 2023 construction season will bring more upgrades to this area of Route 11. The northbound lanes between the south side of Shediac River and the south side of Cocagne River are scheduled to be upgraded.

In 2021, the construction of the new lanes (southbound lanes) between the north side of Cocagne River and the south side of Little Bouctouche River were constructed and opened to traffic.

During the 2022 construction season the northbound lanes received a major rehabilitation. The work for the rehabilitation started in the spring of 2022 and was completed in early October 2022. Traffic is now back onto the northbound lanes.

This contract is the last for this section of the Route 11 Twinning project between North Side of Cocagne River and the South Side of Little Bouctouche River, and its completion will be a major milestone for DTI.

Twenty-four culverts will be installed along the highway starting in 2022. There will be five done this year, with on-site detours in place. An average of four to six culverts will be replaced per year.  It is anticipated that all replacements will be complete in late Fall 2027.
