The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will build a new bridge to replace the Kouchibouguac River Bridge No. 1 in the community of Robichaud, located outside the Village of Cap-Pelé on Route 133

On Sept. 20, 2019, the bridge was closed due to damage inflicted by Hurricane Dorian. Structural issues included the significant loss of concrete from the underside of the deck at critical areas which directly impact the strength of the bridge. On Nov. 28, 2019 the provincial government signed a Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangement with the federal government, securing funding to complete the project.

DTI completed the installation of a temporary modular bridge in March of 2020 to maintain traffic flow.

The previous structure was built in 1963. Work on the new bridge is anticipated to start in 2022 and be complete by the end of 2023, pending all permitting, approvals and weather conditions. Traffic will be detoured during construction.
