BLACKS HARBOUR (GNB) – A New Brunswick ferry is being immortalized on a postage stamp. The Grand Manan V, one of two ferries that transports passengers between Grand Manan Island and the mainland, is featured on a new series of Canada Post stamps.
“Our provincial ferries provide critical transportation links, and for the Grand Manan V to be selected as a representative on this kind of scale is exciting,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Richard Ames. “This is a great opportunity for us to highlight this important mode of travel.”
The Grand Manan V is owned by the province and operated by Coastal Transport.
“This is a real honour for our company, and we appreciate the recognition,” said Gregg Ryder, general manager of Coastal Transport. “To have one of our ferries selected as one of only five from across the country, and the only one east of Quebec, is quite an accomplishment.”
The Grand Manan V has been in operation since 1990 and runs as the additional summer ferry, making three round trips daily from late June to early September. Ferry service to Grand Manan is available year-round, and the two ferries transport about 110,000 vehicles, 200,000 passengers and millions of dollars in goods annually.
