FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has re-launched its 511 highway and traffic information service following improvements to its website, the 511 New Brunswick mobile app, and the 511 phone system.

The improvements include enhanced map features, new customized notifications and hands-free audio alerts.

“This is an exciting update to an important tool for New Brunswickers to travel safely around the province,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Jill Green. “Platform improvements and advancements in technology are allowing for a better user experience.”

There are several new features resulting from these improvements:

  • Include your phone number when creating your account to receive text notifications on traffic incidents and road closures.
  • Enter your destination in the mobile app and receive up to three route options with corresponding travel times, and get hands-free audio alerts for your selected route.
  • Create a list of your favourite traffic cameras to view what is happening on the road in real time.
  • A new interactive voice response on the 511 phone system allows hands-free access to alerts and travel times on your favourite routes.

Because the original service provider, Telenium Inc., was sold to IBI Group last December, all users – including those with login credentials for the previous platform – must create a new account. More information about the improvements is available at 511.gnb.ca.

The mobile app is available for Apple and Android devices through the App Store and Google Play.
