SAINT JOHN (CNB) - Culture Fest - the latest in a series of celebrations marking the 225th anniversary of the incorporation of Saint John - will be held this weekend at Rockwood Park. Human Resources Minister Rick Bewer, who is also the minister responsible for the Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat, will be in attendance.
"Saint John's Culture Fest is a great opportunity for New Brunswickers to have fun while experiencing the province's rich cultural diversity," said Brewer. "It is a great opportunity for the people of Saint John and for all New Brunswickers to come together and celebrate."
Culture Fest will be an opportunity for people to experience multicultural music, ethnic food and dancing. Live performances will be held throughout the afternoon, and activities will be organized for children and their families.
Saint John - the first incorporated city in Canada - has been holding 225th anniversary celebrations since the official opening on May 18. The festivities celebrate the city's history and culture and encourage participation in arts, culture and heritage.
"New Brunswick prides itself on being multicultural, and our First Nations communities play a large part in that diversity," Brewer said. "The Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat strives to promote a positive relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples, and events such as this help to make that possible."
Representatives from the Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat will be on hand to give information to the public about the services provided by this branch of government as well as about the province's First Nations communities.
Saint John 225 celebrations will continue into the fall with various classes, events and festivals, including a First Nations festival in September.
