FREDERICTON (CNB) - The following message was released today by Human Resources Minister Rick Brewer, who is also minister responsible for the Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat, on the occasion of National Aboriginal Day:

National Aboriginal Day, June 21, is a time for Canadians from coast to coast to coast to celebrate and learn from the unique heritage, culture and language of First Nations people, not only in New Brunswick, but from across Canada.

This occasion recognizes the significant contributions the First Nations have made to the establishment and growth of our province and our country. More importantly, it also highlights our province's rich cultural identity that should be celebrated on a daily basis.

In order for the province to achieve self-sufficiency, our First Nations communities must be given every opportunity to grow and prosper.

Throughout the province, various activities will be held at First Nations communities in honour of National Aboriginal Day. I would encourage all New Brunswickers to take this unique opportunity and participate in these activities.
