FREDERICTON (CNB) - The provincial government has made a $1,000 investment in the Fredericton Native Friendship Centre. Rick Brewer, minister responsible for the Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat, made the announcement.

"We recognize the valuable contribution that the centre makes in the daily lives of Aboriginal families," Brewer said. "The centre acts as a starting point for many families and students who are new to the region and are in need of assistance. I am pleased that our government can provide support for the great work the staff provides."

Each year, the centre helps Aboriginal families and students who are new to the Fredericton area. It provides a variety of information about education, employment, training and social programs.

The provincial government made the investment through the secretariat's grants program, which provides grants to individuals, First Nations communities and Aboriginal organizations for a variety of events, initiatives and projects aimed at improving the government's relationship with First Nations.
