FREDERICTON (GNB) – New Brunswickers are asked to complete the census questionnaire.
“It is important for New Brunswickers to participate in this survey,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister Ernie Steeves. “The information New Brunswickers provide will be essential in understanding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and to inform decisions on the provision of provincial public services and programs, such as health care and education.”
Statistics Canada conducts a census every five years and is encouraging respondents to use its online platform to reduce in-person visits from census-employees.
New Brunswickers began receiving their census letters in the mail last week. The letters include instructions on how to complete the questionnaire online, as well as a toll-free number for those without reliable internet access or who wish to request a paper questionnaire.
“This data is a key component in the calculation of federal transfer payments to provinces and territories,” said Steeves. “Each unanswered survey will result in less funding to our province.”
Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Margaret Johnson also stressed the importance of having agricultural operators complete the 2021 Census of Agriculture, also available online.
“This is a fast and easy way for agriculture sector stakeholders to be heard,” said Johnson. “The response provided through this questionnaire will provide key information that will help inform and guide decisions on matters that may impact them.”
