Declaration signed for Respectful Workplace Week

To recognize the importance of safe and healthy workplaces that are free from discrimination and harassment, Sept. 3-9 has been declared Respectful Workplace Week in New Brunswick. Official visit by the ambassador of Czech Republic

Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace, who is also minister responsible for Women’s Equality, met with Bořek Lizec, the Czech Republic’s ambassador to Canada. The two discussed the history of Czech immigration in Atlantic Canada, potential for cultural co-operation, and Women’s Equality initiatives.

Honouring the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the massacre of 14 women at the École Polytechnique in Montreal. To mark the day, a vigil to commemorate these women took place at Government House. Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace, who is also the minister responsible for women’s equality, lit a candle as part of the vigil.

Changes to program promoting women in skilled trades deemed a success

On March 14, the Women’s Equality Branch, in partnership with Université de Moncton and the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick Edmundston campus, hosted 396 girls in Grades 8 -12 for Trades & Tech Career Exploration for Girls. A candlelight memorial to commemorate the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women was held in Fredericton in memory of the 14 young women killed at the École Polytechnique in Montreal 29 years ago. Annual investment of $150,000 to support private sector pay equity

The provincial government will invest $150,000 annually to support the advancement of pay equity among private sector organizations that do business with government and that employ 50 or more people. Finance Minister Cathy Rogers made the announcement today.

Regulations to support victims of intimate partner violence posted for review

Proposed regulations under the Intimate Partner Violence Intervention Act, outlining processes to support the operation of the act, have been posted for public review for the next 30 days.
