FREDERICTON (GNB) – In recognition of National Social Work Month, Social Development Minister Dorothy Shephard issued the following statement:

It is important to acknowledge the work accomplished by social workers in our province. These essential professionals play a vital role in society helping New Brunswickers improve their quality of life every day.

With their help, New Brunswickers are able to access the supports and services they need, often during challenging situations.

More than 600 social workers with the Department of Social Development help New Brunswickers access services such as long-term care and disability support services. They also help protect children and seniors from abuse and neglect, recruit foster parents, and advocate for people from all walks of life. On average, Social Development provides services to about 75,000 New Brunswickers every month. This work would not be possible without the dedicated, caring team of social workers in the Department of Social Development.

As we celebrate National Social Worker Month, my message to all social workers is that we sincerely appreciate the work you do every day, but especially thank you for everything you have done the past few years to help New Brunswickers through these challenging times.
