Government of New Brunswick

Overview

This Department issues licences to individuals or companies that carry on the business of conventional on-site sewage disposal system installation, construction, repair and/or replacement. Licences are issued by Technical Inspections Services and are valid until March 31 of each year.

Eligibility

A person or company who wishes to install, construct, repair and/or replace conventional on-site sewage disposal systems, has successfully completed the New Brunswick On-site Sewage Disposal System Installer Course, has passed the New Brunswick On-site Sewage Disposal System Installer Exam, and provides the correct information and fee.

Description

A conventional on-site sewage disposal system is a system with a septic tank and subsurface disposal field having an estimated daily sewage flow not exceeding 5460 litres per day. The subsurface disposal field may consist of perforated pipe and stone, plastic infiltrative chambers, concrete leaching chambers, or even a sewage holding tank or pit privy in special circumstances. Conventional systems do not include a contour system or a pressure-dosed plastic infiltrative chamber system. On-site sewage disposal systems are required in areas where no municipal sanitary sewer services are available. Non-conventional systems are those other than conventional and must be designed by a Professional Engineer licensed to work in New Brunswick and installed by a licensed installer with appropriate information submitted.
