Beginning on Jan. 1, 2021, New Brunswickers will pay $0.97 per month for each outgoing telephone line. This is an increase from the previous rate of $0.53 per month. 

  

The fee applies to all outgoing lines for landlines, wireless and Voice Over-IP (VoIP) telecommunications services.

  

Telecommunications service providers may continue to retain a billing and collection fee of $0.07 per month per exchange service, as defined in subsection 5(1) of the NB 911 Service Fee Regulation under the Emergency 911 Act.

  

There are no specific forms for remittance of fees.

Per the Emergency 911 Act and NB 911 Service Fee Regulation, telecommunication service providers must, within 45 days after the last day of each month,

a)    remit to the Minister the fees for the NB 911 services they collected during that month,
        less the billing and collection fees, and

b)    submit to the Minister a report containing the following information with respect to that
        month:

                     i.  the amount of fees for the NB 911 service that were billed;
                    ii.  the amount of fees for the NB 911 service that were collected;
                   iii.  the amount of fees for the NB 911 services that the telecommunications service
                         provider remitted to the Minister;
                   iv.  the amount of the billing and collection fees;
                    v.  the number of exchange services that were provided; and
                   vi.  if applicable, the taxes, levies, duties or similar charge that the telecommunications
                         service provider collected.
