Crown Waterfront Reserves are strips of land ranging in depth from 20.1 metres to 60.4 metres (66 feet (1 chain) to 198 feet (3 chains)) along the bank(s) of a river, stream, or lake. These lands are reserved as public lands to be used for such benefits as: wildlife and riparian habitat and biodiversity conservation, watercourse buffers and environmental protection, public access to waterways, conserving aesthetic vistas, and cultural and archaeological resources along waterways.
