Overview
Under the Petroleum Product Storage and Handling Regulation (87-97) under the Clean Environment Act, no person may construct, install, alter, modify, change the capacity of, excavate, disassemble, destroy or dispose of a petroleum storage system, with a total capacity of 2000 liters or more, unless the person who will be doing the work is a licensed installer. The purpose of the licence is to ensure that all work is conducted in accordance with the Act and Regulation, so as to prevent petroleum spills and contamination. Licences must be renewed on an annual basis.
Eligibility
Any person wishing to install or modify a petroleum storage tank with a total capacity of 2,000 liters or more, or a marina having a system with a total capacity of 200 liters or more. All prospective installers must have completed a designated training program set by the Minister and this involves: successful completion of a two week long installer's course approved by the Department, submission of a log book showing direct field experience that involves the installation of aboveground and underground petroleum storage systems and tank removals, a current copy of insurance certificate showing products and completed operations insurance of at least $ 1M, and submission of the license fee.
Description
The licencing process involves review of applications and associated documentation, familiarizing the applicant to PPSH Regulation 87-97 and the construction standards, and issuance of licences.
