Traffic Advisory – The Approach Channel Bridge will be reduced to a single lane until November 2023 to allow for continued rehabilitation work to take place.

The contractor is continuing rehabilitation work at the south end of the bridge. The lane width will be altered to 3.9m during this time to allow for snow clearing operations.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure appreciates the public’s patience during this time.

Built in 1968, the Approach Channel Bridge in Mactaquac is a 189-metre bridge, adjacent to the Mactaquac Dam, on Mactaquac Road. The transportation link serves as a strategic route for residents and visitors to the Mactaquac area as well as workers at the Mactaquac Dam. The bridge serves approximately 4,340 vehicles a day.

The Approach Channel Bridge Rehabilitation Project began in the Fall of 2022, with an anticipated completion date in November 2024. Rehabilitation will increase the weight capacity and extend the life of the structure by approximately 30 years.

The timeline and specifications for the project have been adjusted in order to avoid a full bridge closure during rehabilitation work. The project will now accommodate a single lane closure only while the work is being done.

Construction on the project began in the Fall of 2022.

One lane of traffic will remain open while the work is being done, with any required temporary full bridge closures to be signed and communicated well in advance.

Bridge work will cause some traffic delays; however, no long-term detours are necessary.
